Do essentially conditional information inequalities
We show that two essentially conditional linear information inequalities (including the Zhang–Yeung’97 conditional inequality) do not hold for asymptotically entropic points. This result raises the question of the “physical” meaning of these inequalities and the validity of their use in practice-oriented applications.
متن کاملWhat Do Emotion Words Represent?
In their target article, Sabini and Silver claim “that there are fewer [emotional] mental states than there might seem to be, but that they are related to language and its use in more complicated ways than had been thought” (this issue). They describe an unspoken assumption among psychologists that every emotion word in a given language corresponds to a different “mental state.” Sabini and Silv...
متن کاملHow do feature maps represent?
Three different ways to understand the representational content of the feature maps employed in early vision are compared. First is Stephen Kosslyn's claim, entered as part of the debate over mental imagery, that such areas support "depictive" representation, and that visual perception uses them as depictive representations. Reasons are given to doubt this view. Second, an improved version of w...
متن کاملProving primality in essentially quartic random time
This paper presents an algorithm that, given a prime n, finds and verifies a proof of the primality of n in random time (lg n)4+o(1). Several practical speedups are incorporated into the algorithm and discussed in detail.
